About Hippy Revival

Hello and welcome to my site. I’m Clare and I’ve started this blog so I can share some of my recipes, ramblings and experiences with you all. I’ve aptly named the blog after my own ‘hippy revival’.

After having to eliminate a lot of foods due to intolerances I’ve had to adapt what I eat and my relationship with food has completely changed. This has also extended to personal care and I have recently adapted the products I use on my skin and my hair. I read a really scary fact in a beauty post by Deliciously Ella a few months ago about how our skin absorbs about 60% of everything we put on it. (Click Ella’s name to read her post). This really made me think, I have been so careful about what I put into my body recently but I never gave any thought to what I put on my skin or hair.

I tend to go to bed with wet hair covered in conditioner and let it dry overnight. I used to suffer with really bad acne (likely caused by my dairy intolerance) and recently a few of these cystic type spots have made a reappearance on my neck and around my face, mainly where my hair would be touching the skin. I needed to make a change before it came back with a vengeance, I can’t let acne rule my life again. So I decided to make a change, to try and make my own products and see if this helped my skin. So far it’s working but I’m still experimenting to find the perfect recipes. And my diet is still a little up and down due to trying to reintroduce some foods but my skin seems a lot happier by the changes I’ve made.

I had a lot of issues with my diet over the past couple of years and I’m currently eliminating gluten, dairy and yeast. This was pretty much an overnight change after receiving some intolerance test results and speaking with a nutritionist. Within a couple of weeks all of my symptoms disappeared. I now have much more energy, my skin is clearer and I’m no longer constantly bloated!

Changing my diet that drastically overnight was really tricky, I get a lot of inspiration from healthy food blogs the main one I like to use is the Deliciously Ella blog and app. I’m not sure I would have been able to cope without Deliciously Ella’s recipes, her food is just so amazing, she manages to make healthy food so tasty. And is there really a life worth living without chocolate and treats?

I think my transition to a full blown hippy is almost complete. In the last 6 months I’ve changed my diet, my skincare routine, I now colour my hair with henna, I pierced my nose and I make my own shampoo! My husband is wondering if there’s some sort of ‘not sold as seen’ agreement on our marriage as this wasn’t entirely what he was expecting from his new wife. I just need to take down those old curtains and make myself some harem pants and tie dye a few t-shirts to complete the transition.

My blog is brand new and I have some things I want to share with you but please be patient for new posts, but please spread the word, too!

Thanks for reading,

Clare xXx
